Kresy-Siberia Virtual Museum
The Kresy-Siberia Foundation is a registered charity dedicated to preserving and sharing the memories of Polish citizens’ struggle under occupation and in exile in connection with the Second World War. You can read more about that here: https://kresy-siberia.org/objectives/
Their original website was a vast multisite network consisting of approximately 15 websites which have, over a period of many years, been updated by different developers and patched to a point where it couldn’t be upgraded to the latest WordPress versions. A lot of the original functions no longer worked correctly. These sites contained over 60,000 entries to a tribute section, several thousand images in user submitted galleries and video testimonies from survivors. On top of this, there were many exhibitions and special exhibitions, built in flash.
The brief was to rebuild the site in a stable platform, redesign and update the theme to be responsive. I chose WordPress for the platform, Gravity Forms and GravityView for the data handling and display. For performance, we have had to ramp up the server power and install the Redis Object Cache to enhance data query speeds.
Once the original data had been formatted and imported to the new website, we then had another 300k entries to import. The Virtual Museum and data sections are now complete, with the Special Exhibitions still under development.

Shelley at Total Site Solutions was excellent in setting up and developing our new website. There were some tricky algorithms to create but that was no problem and the whole site came together and has met the brief as planned, even adding a few extra ideas along the way.
